How Hybrid Bridging Works

The Hybrid Bridging protocol is an innovative solution for transferring wrapped blue-chip tokens like wETH and wBTC across various blockchain networks. The addition of blue-chip tokens to both new and established chains can increase trader interest and activity on DEXs.

Hybrid bridging combines the best features of lock-and-mint bridging and native token bridging.

For chains that lack native support for wETH or wBTC, the protocol utilizes secure lock-and-mint functionality. This involves locking tokens on the original chain and minting equivalent wrapped tokens on the destination chain.

For chains that already support native wETH and wBTC, the protocol employs a more efficient native token bridging method, allowing for smooth transfers without the need for additional minting. Additionally, if a user bridges ChainPort-minted wETH or wBTC to a chain with native support, the minted tokens are burnt and replaced with native wETH or wBTC.

This hybrid approach ensures the efficient and flexible transfer of wrapped tokens across different blockchain environments.
